Guide to land-based whale watching in Iceland

Land-based whale-watching in Iceland can be truly exceptional.

Would you believe us if we told you that we conduct the majority of our research from land? Well, it’s true.

In Iceland, whales often travel surprisingly close to shore, making it an incredible destination for land-based whale-watching. That said, there are definitely hotspots where your chances of a great encounter are much higher. Over time, we’ve come to know these spots well, and we’ve brought that knowledge together into a 43-page comprehensive guide. Inside, we explain where to go, what time of year and what species you’re most likely to see.

Our digital guide can be yours for a single donation of £12, or by joining our community of monthly donors (orca or blue whale package). Many small donations can have a huge impact. Like most charities, Whale Wise relies on consistent, smaller contributions rather than occasional large ones. Your regular support helps us plan ahead and continue our vital work protecting whales and their habitats.

British taxpayers are able to claim Gift Aid on their donation, increasing the impact of your contribution. Thank you for supporting our mission to study and protect whales.
