Octopus is one of our most frequently sighted whales, instantly recognisable by a long scar that resembles a tentacle. Young and bold, Octopus is a sociable humpback, found with both large and small whales. Since they were first observed in 2022, Octopus has only been observed in the fjord system of Ísafjarðardjúp and nowhere else!

This is a small whale with a big personality. Adopt Octopus today to follow their adventures!

Chicken is a superstar. With a distinctive black chicken head at the bottom of their bright white fluke, Chicken is nearly always found in groups while foraging in the Westfjords. This humpback has ventured around the North and West of Iceland over the years, returning to the Westfjords regularly since 2021.

If you want a whale with character, adopt Chicken to follow their journey.

With a fluke reminiscent of a shimmering night sky, Starlight is a regular feeding visitor to the Westfjords. A social whale with documented migrations of thousands of miles, Starlight has a fascinating story to tell. This beautiful humpback has been seen in Iceland annually since 2022 and bears the scars of human-caused injury.

Adopt Starlight today to learn more about this intriguing whale.

Likely our oldest adopted whale, Osprey is a large female who has previously been seen with a calf. One of the largest humpbacks we’ve seen in the Westfjords – with the most amazing fluke – Osprey is rarely seen alone. This whale remains mysterious but as we continue to observe Osprey, we’re excited to learn more about her life.

To follow her journeys around Iceland and beyond, adopt Osprey today.

An energetic whale with a striking fluke pattern, Shadow is one of the larger whales in the Westfjords. A regular in the area since 2022, Shadow is a social whale, lifting their fluke high into the air before each feeding dive.

Adopt Shadow to follow their adventures through Iceland.

One of the most recognisable whales in the Westfjords, Bandit’s ‘white eyes’ in the centre of the fluke are an instant giveaway. Returning year after year since 2019, this sub-adult humpback relies on the productive waters Northwest Iceland to feed on krill and fish.

Why we’re going digital

We are committed to keeping your donations focused on the whales. That’s why everything you receive as part of your adoption will be delivered via email—no physical items will be sent. This decision allows us to allocate your entire donation towards our conservation efforts, rather than spending it on shipping or manufacturing costs. We’ve also made this choice to reduce Whale Wise’s environmental footprint, helping protect the very creatures we work to conserve.

British taxpayers are able to claim Gift Aid on their sponsorship, increasing the impact of your contribution. Thank you for supporting our mission to study and protect whales.
